At Interhash 98 in Kuala Lumpur a preliminary draft of the Family Tree of the Hash House Harriers, worldwide was produced, showing the relationship of some 1,100 Hash chapters to the original Hash House Harriers, created in Kuala Lumpur in 1938.
The interest shown in this project at the Interhash event, and subsequent information received from all over the Hash World, has enabled us to refine the structure and to add about 200 more Hash chapters to this Family Tree.
In May 1999 a revised edition was published covering these 1,300 Hash chapters. More recently, an additional list of about a further 100 Hashes has been included as a result of further information received.
The Hash Family Tree was maintained on genealogy software (Reunion 8 for the Mac OS X by Leister Productions) and converted to html for display as a real time navigable family tree on the Hash House website.
This version of Hash Family Tree has not been updated
for sometime but it can be seen
Genealogy data has
at all times been collected and held on a master
Spreadsheet. From this master spreadsheet several
versions of the Hash Family tree have been generated via
a Computer Aided Drafting package to present it in an
extremely long Chart which has been on Display at many
major Hash event such. The last Family Tree Chart
was produced for Interhash 2008 in Perth

There are now over 3000 hash Chapters listed on the
master file. Simultaneously verification of the data so
far collected and development of new presentations of
that data is now under way. Stage 1 of the new
presentation shows all data available so that the
hashing world is able to participate in the verification
and update processes. Copies of historical document
related
to the early days of each hash chapter are being sought
so that these documents might be held in the Hash
Heritage Foundation Library. All historical
documents will ultimately be available on the website
for Hashdom to view.
All information and
copies of documents need to be emailed to
genealogist@thehashhouse.org
The Hash Genealogy
records currently contain (where known) details of chapter name,
Country, State, date of birth, date of death, founder
founders previous hash and co-founders.
The Hash Genealogy considers each Hash chapter to be the 'mother' of all the Hashes directly formed from it by members of the originating Hash.
Each Hash founder is the person who is considered to be most responsible for the formation of the new child Hash. Those who assisted the founder in the establishment of the new chapter are considered to be co-founders or 'midwives'.
